Don't Follow the Crowd

Ezekiel 23

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 5) "And Aholah (Oholah) played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers..." (v. 11) "And when her sister Aholibah (Oholibah) saw this, she was corrupt in her inordinate love than she...."

My Thoughts

Don't follow after the sins of others. If you see someone doing something that you know isn't right, don't follow their example. If it is a group of people, still, do not follow them. What they are doing is wrong, as you know, and if you follow, you'll share in the wrongdoing. Even if the person or people are friends or family or you are a part of the group beforehand, stay strong and don't go along with what everyone else is doing.

The 2 sister on the above verses were family. One followed what the other did and became worse in what was being done. These sisters, Aholah and Aholibah were metaphoric representations of Jerusalem and Samaria and the people living in those places. What they were doing was giving themselves to the people of the lands and to their gods. God wanted them to turn back to Him because they were doing what God had told them not to do. They were defiling themselves.

Again, don't follow what others do, but follow God. Stay close to Him and you will not be punished alongside those who commit their sins. What you can do in some situations, and talk to God before you do this and ask Him if this is what He wants you to do, but you can step up and tell those people that what they're doing is wrong. Oddly enough, some people, depending on what they are doing, do not truly realize that it is wrong. It may just take someone saying so. Sometimes people won't listen right away, and you need to discern whether to continue with them or not. Don't always be of the mind that you need to make them listen. Planting the seed can make a huge difference.

If there isn't anything for you to do, and even if there is, you can always learn from their mistakes and the consequences that follow. If you learn from it, you'll likely not stumble down the same path later on.

Prayer Time

Now you talk to God about what you read, and you can even read this chapter of the Bible for yourself before you do. Godbless!
