Bible Reading #195 - Origin of Languages

Origin of Languages

Genesis 11

Every day I feel is a blessing from God. And I consider it a new beginning. Yeah, everything is Beautiful. - Prince
I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 1) "The whole world had one language with a common vocabulary" (v. 9) "This is why it was named Babel, because there the LORD turned language of the whole earth into babble. From that place the LORD scattered them all over the face of the earth."

My Thoughts

Well, if you ever wanted to know why the Tower of Babel is so named, it is because peoples' language became babble. Not even joking. Says so right there in verse 9. I find it funny! The name is quite apt, wouldn't you say? Hmm, yes, quite.

Really now, what is the meaning of all this to us? Well, it does also explain where other languages came from. Before the people started building the Tower of Babel, there was only one language on the earth. I don't know what it was, though I believe I have heard that it was Hebrew. I don't know for sure.

Possibly what the Tower of Babel would look like

Building the city of Babel, with a tower in the sky was not a good thing because they were doing this to make a name for themselves and so they wouldn't be scattered. I believe also they wanted to build a tower up to the heavens, up to God. Though, the heavens may just be referring to the sky. God confused their language so that they wouldn't understand each other and the building would stop. Then they were scattered around the earth as well.

So Babel is named so because it sounds like babble, which is incoherent speaking. This is where the different languages came from. Now what are we supposed to get out of this, aside from these small bits of knowledge? I think it would be that we were not meant to do certain things. I believe were meant to see and to know about certain things, but not necessarily go there maybe.

If were meant to go to space, I don't believe it would be as dangerous as it is and require the technology that we have only now and that it wouldn't have such damaging or drastic effects on us going out there. The sun, for example, was meant as a light source to govern the day, but if you were to fly anywhere near it in a spaceship, you'd burn up quite quickly.

Then too, maybe God stopped the people from building this tower to the sky, not necessarily because of that itself, but because He knew that if they were to build it out of the atmosphere, they wouldn't have the necessary technology or equipment or anything to protect themselves. Maybe God was just saving them from destroying themselves. What are your thoughts about this?
