Bible Reading #168 - You Are God's Family

You Are God's Family

Deuteronomy 27

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 9-10) "Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, 'Be quiet and listen, Israel. Today you have become the people of the LORD your God. Obey the LORD your God and follow his commands and laws which I am giving you today.' "

My Thoughts

A lot of these kinds of verses in the Bible are talking directly to a specific person or group of people. The Bible is still very important for us to read and listen. You can probably take any verse that talks to a specific person or even group and replace it with your own name.

So do that with this verse. "Today you, Justin, Katie, Samantha and Raphael, have become the people of the Lord your God. Obey the Lord your God and follow His commands and laws." Those who have accepted Jesus and live their lives in Christ are a part of God's family. In fact, I believe that everyone is part of God's family. We are all His children after all. Even those who don't believe in God are His children. They are lost and far from Him. It's our job to help bring them back.

When you are in God's family and you live your life in Him, things change drastically.

Your attitude changes and you no longer want to act in any way displeasing to God. You want your actions to show that you are a Christ follower and you want to do things to help others instead of hinder them.

Your mind changes and you no longer want to think displeasing thoughts. You don't want your mind to wander into dark territory and you instead want to think about good things and how good God is and how you can do good.

Your heart changes and you have love for people. Not just for friends and family, but for everyone, including your enemies and others you may have hated before or otherwise.

Verse 10 says to obey God's commands and laws. "Wait, why does God give us 'commands' and laws?" Well, hey, those are really just words. Laws they are, not guidelines. This is to protect us and to remind us that if we do such things God says not to do, we cannot experience His best for us.

As for the commands, they are the same things. God has laws and He has commanded us not to break those laws and not to do the things they say not to do. That's what God's commands are. God won't force us to do anything, but He still does put things on our hearts that He wants us to do.

We can't be in God's family and refer to ourselves as such and at the same time not follow God's laws. If we don't follow His laws, it can ruin our relationship with Him. In fact, it will. That's not something we want.

Prayer Time

Now you talk to God about what you read, and you can even read this chapter of the Bible for yourself before you do.

Let me know your thoughts on this reading as well.

Thank you for taking the time to read, I pray that what you have read blesses and inspires you! Godbless!
