Bible Reading #160 - Even Water Obeys God

Even Water Obeys God

Joshua 3

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 13) "The priests who carry the ark of the LORD, the Lord of the whole earth, will stand in the water of the Jordan. Then the water flowing from upstream will stop and stand up like a dam.' " (v. 15-16) "(The Jordan overflows all its banks during the harvest season.) When the priests who were carrying the ark came to the edge of the Jordan River and set foot in the water, the water stopped flowing from upstream. The water rose like a dam as far as the city of Adam near Zarethan. The water flowing down toward the Sea of the Plains (the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. Then the people crossed from the east side of the Jordan River directly opposite Jericho."

My Thoughts

God said that when the priests, who were carrying the ark of the Lord, stand in the water of the Jordan, the water would stand up like a dam. Well, as soon as they reached the edge, the water did exactly that! The water stopped flowing and piled up some distance away. Jesus also turned water to wine at the wedding in Cana. And don't forget that Moses parted the Red Sea. How amazing that even water obeys God!

Nature belongs to God and all parts of nature completely obey Him. All the animals know their purpose. They know their creator. Also the plants know their purpose and their creator. Even non-living things like water, air, rock, dirt. All these things obey God as well. Jesus mentions at one point that if the people were to be silent, then he rocks would cry out in Luke 19:40.

God did what He did here with the Jordan River so that the Israelites could cross over into the land that God had promised them. It was also yet another moment of God showing Himself to them and making Himself plain as day to them. Though that really didn't mean anything to them later on.

If non-living things can obey God, how can't we? If your answer is "Because God can manipulate inanimate things just like we can." Then how about the animals? They are alive and think for themselves, yet they choose to obey God.
