Bible Reading #203 - Foreign Land

Foreign Land

Genesis 20

Every day I feel is a blessing from God. And I consider it a new beginning. Yeah, everything is Beautiful. - Prince
I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 1) "Abraham moved to the Negev and settled between Kadesh and Shur. While he was living in Gerar," (v. 11) "Abraham said, "I thought that because there are no God-fearing people in this place, I'd be killed because of my wife."

My Thoughts

This passage kinda comes next after the previous in theme as well as order. Only difference is this is about Abraham, the last was about Lot. So Abraham goes to another new place where the people there are attracted to his wife Sarah. And he does the same thing as last time. Abraham asks Sarah to say that she is his sister instead of his wife, because he is fearful that he might be killed because of her.

This caused problems last time, but Abraham does it again. Then again, Abraham did receive wealth from the last time and everything turned out okay. Guess what? The same thing happens again this time. First come the problems, then everything turns out okay. Strange how things work sometimes, huh?

It can be scary going to a new country. Some countries are very strict in their culture and people have been taken hostage and even killed for things because it offended the people there. Some other countries are strict about their religious views as well, so for us as Christ followers, it makes things difficult.

If you call yourself a Christ follower, you need to show it. You can't lie about it, you probably shouldn't lie about certain things hoping to save your life. I say probably because I'm sure anyone would want to. I can't say I wouldn't ever lie if I thought it would save my life.

All of this can relate to moving as well, whether you're moving to a new neighborhood or to a new country. Just remember that God is with you. You might have a hard time making new friends, finding people that you fit in with and that kind of thing. Especially if you're younger. There may even be people who don't know God, in fact, it's very likely there will be. Just like the place Abraham went to. Remember that even if those people don't know God, God does know them.

God knows those who don't know Him which means that we don't really have to. We can pray for them and since God knows their situation, He knows what's best. If you are going to a new place, whether temporary or permanent, and you're a little nervous or scared because you don't know anybody, ask God for strength, confidence and to show you where He wants you to be and what He wants you to do.

Prayer Time

Now you talk to God about what you read, and you can even read this chapter of the Bible for yourself before you do.
