Bible Reading #212 - 7 Years for Love

7 Years for Love

Genesis 29

Every day I feel is a blessing from God. And I consider it a new beginning. Yeah, everything is Beautiful. - Prince
I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 20) "Jacob worked seven years in return for Rachel, but the years seemed like only a few days to him because he loved her." (v. 23) "In the evening he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob. Jacob slept with her. When morning came, he realized it was Leah." (v. 25) " 'What have you done to me?' Jacob asked Laban. 'Didn't I work for you in return for Rachel? Why did you cheat me?' "

My Thoughts

Have you ever loved someone so much that you would do anything for them? Like, almost literally anything? Jacob was willing to work for 7 years in order to have the woman he loved. The worst part about this was that Jacob was cheated and given the older daughter, Leah. If he wanted Rachel, he had to work another. Seven. Years. He was promised Rachel, then given Leah because she was the older, and it wasn't their custom to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older.

Jacob loved Rachel so much that he did work another 7 years for her. 14 years in total. Wow. That would be hard, wouldn't it? Now, there are 2 problems with this whole situation, on Jacob's end. 1, Jacob had 2 wives in the end, actually 4 because of the servant girls. Though at that time, multiple wives was not uncommon. 2, Because Jacob had more than one wife, there was a lot more of competition happening rather than love. Rachel and Leah disliked each other and then they each gave their servant girls to Jacob, adding even more competition.

I should change the title from "7 Years for Love" to "Love Competition" because that's really what happens here. Anyway, I'll focus on the other part that doesn't have to do with competition. That's the next post's topic!

Jacob was willing to wait 14 years for the woman he loved, even though half that time he shouldn't have had to. Isn't that just amazing? If you haven't found love yet, you still might. Let God handle it. Don't take matters into your own hands. You'll only end up in a relationship that really isn't right for you.

Just keep asking God to put the person that he has out there for you into your life. And be faithful and trusting. It will happen in God's timing.
