Daily Bible Reading with DragoNate #136

Finding Fault

John 8

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 7) "When they persisted in asking him questions, he straightened up and said, 'The person who is sinless should be the first to throw a stone at her.' " (v. 10-11) "Jesus straightened up and ask her, 'Where did they go? Has anyone condemned you?' The woman answered, 'No one, sir.' Jesus said, 'I don't condemn you either. Go! From now on don't sin.' "

My Thoughts

Some teachers of the law and Pharisees came to Jesus with a woman who had been caught in adultery. They were going to use this woman to trap Jesus in His words. The law of Moses said that such a woman should be stoned. If Jesus said yes to stoning her, He would be saying yes also to killing her. If He said no, He is going against law of Moses.

So what does Jesus do? He bends down and starts writing in the dirt. What? Why? I still don't fully understand why Jesus did this, but I will leave that for another time. The people persisted in questioning Jesus, so Jesus said for one of them who is without sin to be the first to throw a stone. One by one they left until there was only the woman and Jesus.

They all knew that they had sinned at some point in their lives and none of them were without sin. So they left because there was nothing more they could do. Jesus didn't condemn the woman either, but instead gave her mercy and told her to leave and not sin anymore.

Each of those people who were there, ready to stone this woman, tried to find fault not only in Jesus, but in this woman as well. They wanted to use her to trap Jesus, and that itself is wrong. What I am focusing on is that thy were looking for fault in others but themselves. They each have their own faults as well, but they didn't care. Jesus put them in their place pretty quick.

Don't look for fault in others because you have your own faults. If you are going to look for fault, look at yourself. Find your own flaws and work on them so that they aren't flaws anymore. If you go around looking for flaws in other people, it's eventually going to come back on you. When you notice fault in others, you don't need to point it out or condemn them for it. Instead, depending on what it is, talk to them about it and try to help them if they will let you. Otherwise, just pray for them.

We all have our own faults and our flaws, so what is the point of looking for those in other people? There are much better things you can with your time and your life than look for and point out the mistakes others make. It's a complete waste of time to do so.

Daily Bible Reading with DragoNate #100

The Word of God

John 1

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 1) "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (v. 14) "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

My Thoughts

Jesus is the Word of God. The first eighteen verses of John 1 talk about the Word of God. They do not mention Jesus' name, but we know that Jesus is who is talked about. We know this because the Word became flesh and these verses talk about the Word of God as if it is a person or a being. And it is.

If Jesus is the Word of God, what then, is the Bible? Is the Bible still the Word of God? I believe that, in calling the Bible the Word of God, we are correct. Some people do not think so. The words in the Bible are not spoken or even written by God Himself, no, but the Bible is inspired by God. What is in the Bible was put there by God, but used those who were willing to write its words. God made sure that what went into the Bible was what He wanted and that all of it was there, He just didn't write it Himself.

Just because God didn't write the words of the Bible Himself, doesn't meant that it didn't still come from Him. After all, what does 'word' mean? A word is a meaningful grouping of letters that are used to communicate. The Bible is full of those. Jesus is the Bible personified. That is what I believe.

I said in an earlier post that God talks to us in many different ways. Well, one of those ways is through the Bible. The biggest way, which is now in the Bible coincidentally, was through Jesus. No, it is not even close to the same as it would have been to actually see and hear and touch Jesus as it is for us to read about Him, but Jesus shows Himself in many different ways as well.

Jesus is not here with us in the same way that He was then, so how else can God communicate with us through His Word? The Bible. Even the pastors at church preach from the Bible its teachings. God still talks directly to us sometimes, not always. That's why we have the Bible.

So what does the Word of God mean to you? Do you believe that the the Word of God is only Jesus, or do you believe that the Word of God is Jesus and the Bible? Also, why do you believe one or the other?

In Jesus' Name

John 14

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 12-14) "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. An I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

My Thoughts

Jesus says that we can ask for anything in His name, and He will do it. So what does it mean to ask in His name? If you're thinking of how a lot of people, myself included, end their prayers with "In Jesus's name, amen," that is not quite right. You can pray about anything, even to die like Elijah did, but ending it with "In Jesus' name, amen" does make it so.

When we end our prayers with that, it is like a traditional thing, I think. We are praying to Jesus, or in Jesus. To actually pray for something in His name, your heart and your request need to be aligned with Jesus' heart. If your heart is not aligned with Jesus' heart, He is not going to do whatever you ask. If your request is not aligned with Jesus' heart, Jesus is not going to do it.

When you ask for something that will bring glory to the Father, that is when Jesus will do it. If we want Jesus to do what we ask of Him, we need to ensure that our hearts are aligned with His and that our request will bring glory to God. I won't give an examples here because that is really up to you to decide what it is you want to ask for.

I feel like this post is very short, and I cannot think of anything else to add. Just remember to keep your heart in line with that of Jesus. Remember that when you ask for something from Him, if you want Him to answer your request, make it a request that will glorify God.

3 Kinds of People

John 12

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 42-44) "Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from more than praise from God. Then Jesus cried out, 'When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me."

My Thoughts

When it comes to faith in God the Father and the Son, there are generally three kinds of people. Jesus identified these three kinds of people in this chapter of John, which are as follows:

1. Unbeliever - The unbeliever does not believe in Jesus or in God, even though Jesus performed miracles in their presence. These people are just dead set against belief in Jesus, despite logic or reason or proof to do otherwise.
2. Secret Believer - The secret believer does believe in Jesus, but they are not open about it. Either they are afraid of others, they have some doubts, are embarrassed or something else that keeps them from telling anyone.
3. Open Believer - The open believer is the one who believes in Jesus wholeheartedly and is not afraid or embarrassed to tell anyone else about their faith in Jesus. They are often eager to tell others, in fact.

Which group do you belong to?

If you're searching for more reason to believe, you would belong to the first group. That's okay. If you're searching, it just means that you need more convincing. If you click at the tab at the top of this page where it says 'Daily Bible Reading' then click on of the links there, you will be taken to a list of the other posts I have done. Find whichever title most applies to your situation and read. if you have any questions, you can contact me via my email in the 'About' page.

If you're sitting there thinking, "But I don't just tell everyone I meet that I follow Jesus..." that's okay! You know what? I don't either. That isn't required. What matters is whether you are afraid to tell someone that you follow Jesus. You don't have to tell anyone immediately, but don't not tell them if you feel God leading you to.

You know, if you think about it, unbelievers and open believers are actually both being honest. If you don't believe, then you don't, and people generally are not afraid to say that. If you do believe, and you don't hide it or lie about it or anything, you are again being honest. However, if you do hide it, then ask yourself why.

If you avoid telling anyone that you follow Jesus, then what is the reason? Are you afraid of hatred or persecution? Don't be, God is with you and you know this. You know that God is stronger and that there is no reason to fear anyone but Him.

Are you embarrassed? What possible reason would you have to be embarrassed? Have people made fun of you? Why should that stop you? They're the ones laughing at something that is true that has actual scientific and historic proof behind it.

Are you doubting? What is it that you are doubting? If you have doubts, then what is keeping you even slightly attached? That's even more dishonest because you can't believe in something that you don't truly agree with or believe in because you choose to.

The biggest thing here is that you should never hide your faith. Hiding your faith is dishonest because God does not want us to hide our faith in Him. He wants us to share our faith with others. That's actually a contradiction right there, is it not? There is no good reason to hide your faith. Now, like I said, you don't have to tell every single person that you ever speak to, but just don't be afraid. If someone were to ask you if you follow Jesus, would you readily say yes, or deny Him? I will leave with that.

Prepare the Way

Luke 3

I pray blessings on you as you read.

(v. 8) "Produce fruit in keeping with repentance..." (v. 9) "The ax is ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire."

My Thoughts



John the baptist tells the people, and us, to produce fruit in keeping with repentance. What does that mean? We aren't trees, we can't produce fruit. Well, not literally. The fruit that we produce refers to what we do for God. It is what we set in motion, the things that we do that open the door for God to act.

John prepared the way for Jesus. What John did was baptize the people. He prepared their hearts by baptizing and guiding them. He baptized Jesus the same way he baptized all the people. John was helping these people to open their hearts so that God could act within them. I won't get too much into baptizing right now because that would take the focus way off tangent. The point here is that baptism is being born again and a public declaration that you are wanting to be born again in Christ.

To prepare the way means to make straight paths for the Lord. We accomplish this by introducing Him to the world, sharing His word and sharing our testimony; our experiences of Him. What is something that God has done for you? It can be great or small. If it's something from God, that's all that matters.

Don't hide your faith from the world. If you hide your faith, that shows that you are afraid to show that you love God. Think about that. If you were in a relationship with someone and you were hiding it from your friends and family, does that really show love? That shows that you are ashamed or embarrassed to be in a relationship with that person. That's not at all pleasing to God.

You don't have to be big to make a difference. Little things count too. Little things matter to God and to those they affect. Showing love to someone in some way is great to show Christ in you. That opens the door for Him to enter, even if only slightly. Show love to someone this week. Let it make you feel good and that person.

Daily Bible Reading with DragoNate #18

Jesus Washes His Disciples' Feet

John 13

(v. 5) "... he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciple's feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him."

My Thoughts



Jesus took to washing His disciple's feet, which was not something that someone of a higher status would do. It was customary to have your feet washed before a meal, but it was a task that a servant would perform, not someone like Jesus. Well, in this case, it was exactly the kind of thing that Jesus would do because He came to serve us. He is our Lord, but He is One who would serve His people and not just rule over them.

This was a very significant act because it shows us Jesus' humility. What He said afterward, that He has set an example for us and we should do the same, does not necessarily mean to literally wash each other's feet. What this means is that we should be humble as well. We should show humility and serve others. Jesus came to serve us, so is it not fitting that we should serve others as He serves us?

It is only the best of leaders who serve their people, as Jesus does. This is why we should follow in His footsteps. The washing of someone's feet back in Jesus' time didn't really mean anything special. It was something that was done before a meal, like washing your hands before a meal. The reason this act was and is significant is because of the humility of Jesus.

Just because we are not required to literally wash each other's feet, does not mean that we cannot, obviously. some church groups do things like this and it goes in the same category as celebrating the Passover Feast in the very basic traditional way. It's rather cool when these things are done because you can almost feel the history! We just need to keep in mind the deeper meaning behind Jesus' actions here and apply that to our own lives.

To serve others means to care for and even minister to others, especially to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Next time you say hello to someone, don't do the small talk. Take the time to show that you actually care about how their day was or their week or how they are feeling. Do the same on the other side as well; tell that person how you are actually doing, whether you are feeling great, sick, upset, energized or whatever else. Tell the person what you actually did today, even if it isn't that interesting. Actually talking to people is a great way to show that you care about them.

We all as a society have gotten so used to doing things quickly, that we must use every second of time that we have in the most efficient way possible and if that means not talking to people and losing relationships, then so be it. We need to change this. One step at a time, we can change this, first by taking time for ourselves and then making time for others. Show the people that you talk to on a daily basis that you care about them simply by giving them a small bit of your time. Investing your time in people is a great way to serve others and to serve God.
